Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) came into existence after the merger of existing two educational and 21 research institutes administered by the Departments of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of the Government of Kerala, in February 1971.
The Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), Kerala came into being on 24 February 1971 under the Agricultural University Act 1971. The university became functional from 1 February 1972. The university building is situated at Vellanikkara in the Thrissur district on the National Highway (NH-47). The university has given the responsibility by the government to conduct undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs in different disciplines of Agricultural Sciences.
The KAU has been judged as the best performing university among 35 state agricultural university and deemed university.
